Four year old Angelo Mendoza Jr may be permanently blinded after police say his own father bit out his left eye and mutilated his other one. Doctors at Mercy Hospital (CA) say it's unclear whether the child will ever regain vision in his right eye. Angelo told the Bakersfield police, "My daddy ate my eyes."
Police say that after attacking his son, Angel Vidal Mendoza Sr., 34, a rolled his wheelchair outside to a vacant home and began hacking at his own legs with an ax. It is believed that Mendoza was under the influence of PCP when the incidents occurred.
Angelo’s Mother, Desirae Marie Bermudez, 23, who has an outstanding warrant for her arrest on another case, was not present. The father remains in custody with $1 million bail: he is charged with torture, mayhem, child cruelty and inflicting an injury to a child. His trial is set for May 20th.
