Need an inexpensive (how about FREE) gift for Dad this Father's Day? Let your kids show Dad or Grandpa how great they are by putting their feeling into an Acrostic poems.
Acrostic poems are very simple poems to write and are a fun way for kids (aged 3-99) to express themselves. In an Acrostic poem, the first letter of each line vertically spells a word or phrase.
To make one you simply write the word vertically on a sheet of paper and then the poem is made by describing or telling something about the subject. The poems don’t have to rhyme (hard for some to grasp) and basically just shows how you feel about the subject. By having a concrete formula, they are super easy for kids write.
For Father’s Day you can use Dad, Daddy, Grandpa, We Love You or even Happy Father’s Day.
Here are a couple of examples to get you started:
Kate on my team
Always scores
The hardest goals in
Every game she plays
Kids can write Acrostic poems about things you aren’t fond of!
Bugs are creepy
Ugly things that
Gross me out!
The first word in the poem doesn’t have to be the actual word as in these examples:
Curious
Agile
Tree Climbers
Or this one where the writer took a little liberty with the X
Animated
Loveable
Exciting
X-tra Silly
A couple of ways to make Dad’s or Grandpa’s gift even more special would be to add a hand drawn picture of Dad & Me on the bottom of the poem or have the child sign or add a handprint. The poem can also be slipped into a dollar store frame and later hung up.
