Anyone who has found a gray hair knows their first thought is usually not a good one! It is always a wonder as to why some of us start turning gray at 25, others at 40 and yet others (like my Dad) never seem to gray at all. My daughter has a friend whose Mother is under than I am, but entirely gray. This is very confusing to my daughter who assumes anyone with gray hair is “old like Grandma” This may explain why so many people (especially woman) choose to color that gray!
Well, now the mystery has been solved: our gray hair is caused by the enzyme, catalase. Apparently the aging process naturally causes our hair to bleach itself white, starting when there is a dip in our catalase levels.
I can see a huge market for anti-gray products now that this has been discovered. This will be great news to a lot us, but probably not the hair dye manufactures!
