Most kids (and adults) love Rice Krispies treats so why not turn them into fun Valentine’s Day treats? Here are five easy options that all start with the basic Rice Krispies treat recipe
Red Heart Shaped Treats
Extra items needed – red food dye and heart shaped cookie cutters
After melting the butter and marshmallows, stir in a few drops of red food coloring until you reach the color of pink, or red you desired. Add in the rice krispies as you normally would, mixing well.
To cut into heart shapes using cookie cutters:
Put the mixture on parchment paper: using another sheet, flatten the mixture to your desired thickness and cut out with cookie cutters.
If the mixture starts to harden, put into the microwave for 15 seconds
.
Frosted Sprinkles Treats
Extra items needed – frosting, red and/or pink sprinkles, red food dye (optional) and heart shaped cookie cutters (optional)
After making the Rice Krispies treats (with or without the red food dye) and cut with cookie cutters as above. Let them cool and simply frost the tops and add colored sprinkles. These look great with chocolate or white frosting (which can be dyed pink or red) and a mixture of Valentine shapes or colored sprinkles
Red Hots Surprise Treats
Extra items needed- box or bag of red hots candy
The only thing addition step needed to make red hot surprise treats is to stir in a box of red hots after half of the cereal is mixed in.
These can be made in heart shapes or simple cut into individual squares – which is often better for little boys.
Candy Heart Message Treats
Extra items needed – box of candy conversation hearts and heart shaped cookie cutters
After cutting the Rice Krispies® treats into hearts, stick a candy conversation heart firmly into the center of each heart. This needs to be done while the mixture is still a bit soft.
Two Tone Dipped Heart Treats
Extra items needed – red food dye, white melting chocolate and heart shaped cookie cutters
Use the heart shaped cookie cutters to cut the treats into hearts and let them cool. Divide the chocolate in half, adding red food coloring to one half. Dip one side of the heart in the white chocolate and the other side in the red. These also look great with half chocolate and half red.
