After we have our kids come, it's often easy to get tied up with their lives with not a lot of time left!
This is also true when it comes to spending quality time with your spouse. Since finances (and sitters) don’t always allow us to have a weekly (or monthly) date night, how about having one without leaving the house?
Put the kids to bed (early if possible) and settle in for some good old fashion one on one time with your spouse. Here are three ideas to get you started:
Candlelight Dinner
How long has it been since the two of you enjoyed a quiet, intimate candlelight dinner for two? For most parents, too long! The dinner itself doesn’t have to be grand; in fact the easier it is to prepare the quicker you two can start to enjoy it. Depending on your taste, a simple baked chicken breast and rice dish, or sautéed shrimp on pasta are both easy and fast. Add a favorite vegetable (or packaged salad) and some garlic bread and your set. And for dessert, Fondue for two is always fun - who doesn’t like strawberries dipped in chocolate?
Movie & Dinner in Front of the TV
When is the last time you got to sit and watch a favorite non-G rated movie together? I’m not talking X-rated here; just a regular action, romance or comedy with non-cartoon characters. Pick up a movie for a buck at the Red Box (located in multiple grocery stores) and order in some pizza or Chinese take out.
You Scrub My Back and…
How about a bubble bath for two? Not with Mr. Bubble but some wonderful sensual scent like lavender or jasmine. Add a few candles, some soft music and reconnect with one another. Some wine, fruit and cheese would be nice too.
There are many ways to set aside some parents only time - we just have to remind ourselves how important it is and do it!
