The Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. For 2009, the Chinese New Year begins today Monday the 26th and will end with the Lantern Festival on January 31. We always go to our local Chinese restaurant who serves a family style New Years Day menu which ends with a commemorative coin given to all the kids in a red envelope. You can always do the same thing at home with a shiny new quarter, half dollar or silver dollar which are available at banks. Most kids love making crafts and coloring so why not use that to slip in a little education in at the same time? You can take this oppurtunity to teach your kids about the Chinese New Year while doing these fun crafts and coloring pages.
