Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito had
been dating for 2 weeks before the murder
As a parent, I can’t imagine what it is like to have your child accused of murder. While I watched Amanda Knox’s family appeared on Good morning America I could see the pain in their faces. They have, of course, stood by their daughter and in the process hired lawyers and investigators to help prove her innocence. It has drained their savings but they continue to borrow because it is what they need to do to for their daughter. Today on the show they spoke of her feelings, "She firmly believes that because she is innocent, the evidence will show that and she will be released. It’s good finally that this is underway. But she's nervous."
Both Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito trials started today in Perugia, Italy. They are charged with murder and sexual violence in connection with the death of Meredith Kercher, Knox’s roommate.
Amanda Knox, claimed to have discovered Meredith’s half-nude, dead body the morning after the murder. Trouble was, the police were not altered and didn't find out until the following morning, when they came to the residence with Meredith’s cell phone, which was found by a neighbor.
In an October 18, 2008 hearing, prosecutors accused Knox of slitting Kercher’s throat in what they called a sexual “satanic rite.” They alleged that Knox was aided by Sollecito and Ivory Coast native Rudy Hermann Guede, who has already been convicted of murder and is serving 30 years.
Both Knox and Sollecito (who proclaim their innocence) decided to appear in court even though it is not required by Italian law. The Kercher’s lawyer Francesco Maresca is seeking to have all proceedings closed to the public and the media.
