It’s hard to find a store that both parents and kids love to shop in. But the Elliot Bay Bookstore (or comapany) is just that and is everything all bookstores should be! First off it is independently owned and it is amazingly stocked with not only "popular" books but so many unknown treasures!
If you are an avid reader, or shop for one, this is THE store to hit. There are over 150,000 titles to browse amongst the wooden shelves along with over 20,000 used books. They have everything from popular kids' books to first edition signed works. You readers, non-readers and reluctant readers will have no trouble finding book after book.
Along with the volumes of books and periodicals, the Elliot Bay Book Comapany has two other nice bonuses. One is their Café which is located in their basement. It is a great place to grab a quick lunch or a treat to keep your energy up. The other is their constant stream of book readings, lectures and signings by local and international authors. A little warning here: tickets go fast for some of these but they are a lot of fun to attend.
I like everything about the Elliot Bay Book Company: the creaky wood floors, the brick, the wooden staircase, how the books are organized, the knowledgeable staff and the fact they are independently owned. After shopping here, you will be feeling differently about shopping at the large cookie cutter book store chains!
