The best way to keep kids (and their minds) busy is to give them a project that requires their imagination.
Crayons and paper are always good but why not take it a step further and make something together that they can then use? All a child needs is some colored chalk and a place to make their master pieces, such as a sidewalk, driveway or walkway. If it is too chilly (we use the covered garage floor) they can use their chalk inside on paper.
We have went so far as to use blackboard paint on on the bedroom side of her entrance door. Now she can draw to her hearts content!
A fun and easy activity, making your own sidewalk chalk, lets you also sneak in some education which is always a good thing!
Materials Needed
1 cup Plaster of Paris
1 cup water
Colored powdered tempera paint
Large mixing bowl
Wooden spoon
Making the Chalk In 3 Steps
1. Mix together the Plaster of Paris and water.
2. Add the powdered tempera paint to the mixture (adding more until desired hue is achieved) mixing well.
3. Pour into molds until dry. If the mold is small (candy mold) it will be dry within a few hours while tissue rolls will take at least 24 hours.
Once the chalk is dry the kids can start creating! .jpg)
