The weather has been beautiful in Austin, and I bet its going to stay all weekend, which means that its time to visit the Farmers' Markets this weekend! And yes, I did say 'markets', plural. There are now TWO farmers' markets in Austin, the Austin Farmers' Market hosted by the SFC at 710 W 6th street downtown on Saturdays from 9-1, and the new HOPE Market at 414 Waller St from 10am - 3pm on Sundays. Many of the same farmers and vendors attend both, plus all sorts of exciting vendors and community groups also attend the HOPE Market. So now you can buy fresh, delicious, local fruits and veggies all weekend! Saturdays always seem so full that for me at least its a welcome alternative.
Speaking of Farmers' Markets... This Saturday at the SFC Market downtown chef Madeline Pizzo will present the bi-weekly chef's demo "Simply Local" at 10:30 am. Its a great chance to learn how to cook some of the wonderful produce available at the Market!
At the HOPE Market on Sunday the C.A.C.I.T.A., a volunteer only non-profit that aims to to produce technologies and machines that are economically viable and, most importantly, socially and environmentally just, is collecting unused bikes and bicycle parts from 11am-3pm. So if you have any lying around, bring them by!
