Vetericyn products

I had the great fortune of working with and getting to know the folks from a 24 hour equine clinic in Iowa called Equine Referral Clinic.  The work they do is absolutely amazing.  They are truly on the cutting edge of equine veterinary technology, often doing ground breaking work.

So when I was in a local feed store and saw our favorite vet on a DVD player, we just had to stop and watch, reminiscing of our good friends.

The DVD was playing endorsements for a product called Veterycin.  The interesting thing is that this product is said to work with the body's immune system to heal wounds.  And if Dr. Brad Gordon from the Equine Referral Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa says it's a good product, I believe him.  This Dr. and his great practice manager, Dana, along with the rest of the ERC crew will do everything in their power to save a horse's life.

Not only will this product work on simple wounds, it is a spray on that you can leave on with no irritation and it even treats the dreaded strangles and scratches.

The website states that Vetericyn is completely bio-compatible because it mimics the body’s natural immune system’s response to an infection. In addition, bacteria, virus, fungi and spores have not demonstrated the ability to develop resistance to Vetericyn. In fact, Vetericyn kills all these single-cell pathogens within 30 seconds of contact. Vetericyn is so potent it kills salmonella, staph, E. coli and even MRSA. But because it is safe as water it is completely non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Therefore your animal can lick its wounds or infections after application of Vetericyn without any adverse affects. It does not stain furniture or clothes. And there are no special disposal requirements.

This product can be found at the following tack and feed stores in the San Diego area:

  • Carter's Hay and Grain in Encinitas
  • Elston's in Poway and Ramona
  • Hawthorne Country Store in Escondido
  • Mary's Tack and Feed in Del Mar

This product is also available at other locations including various veterinarians.  The website provides a list of local retailers.  Here is the website http://www.vetericyn.com/ so you can check it out.

Please note that I have received no compensation for writing about this product.  I respect Dr. Gordon's endorsement and wish to share something that may help other horse owners.

Give it a try the next time your horse has a wound to heal and let us know how it works!
