With untold numbers of people signing up for sites such as Facebook and Myspace, one wonders who would think we need another social networking site. CCP does. Which is why they are putting out COSMOS. EVE Online has always been about connecting with other players in meaningful and rewarding ways. Either flying with them and help them achieve some goal or blowing them up. Now CCP wants to expand the ways that people can connect in EVE. Some of the detractors say it will just be “Spacebook,” but Cosmos will have one feature no other social networking site has ever had before. Much like a friend list on other sites Cosmos will include an Enemy list as well. Now you will be able to dislike someone in the game and make it known. This might seem a little silly but along with that CCP is revamping the in-game mail system. The announcement of DUST 514, a new FPS console based MMO, set in the same universe as And interacting with EVE, players of both games will need open lines of communication to coordinate strategies. EVE has always been a game that defies the standards of MMOs. Now it will be the first with it's own social networking site. It will be the first time two separate games share servers. It will be the first time two separate genres have interacted completely. And it will be the first time a company has shared an MMO server between PC and Console gamers. Having seen the demonstrations of the technology shown at FanFest, the future looks gritty, and that is just the way it should be.
