American Idol has dramatically impacted the U.S. music scene since it's debut on the FOX Television Network in 2002. After eight successive seasons and eight triumphant winners, Producer Simon Fuller and company have discovered some of America's favorite music artists. And even the shows runner's up have been able to cash in on recording contracts and record deals. So who are the top producers in sales among the American Idol Alum? Find out below.
1. Kelly Clarkson - To date, the Idol crowned first is also still number one among her peers in sales. After four albums she has sold over 10, 267,000 albums. That total doesn't include digital only albums! Kelly continues to go strong with her current album, All I Ever Wanted which was released earlier this year.
2. Carrie Underwood - After only two albums this Country singing princess is nipping at the heels of Clarkson. Carrie has already tallied over 9,778,000 album sales in her first four years as a recording artist. That number is bound to grow when her third album is released in November of this year.
3. Chris Daughtry - Season Four's fourth runner up formed the band Daughtry after being booted from the show in 2006. Since that time his band has released two albums and racked up a nice total of 5,027,000 in album sales. Daughtry was also awarded four American Music Awards last year for his debut album.
4. Clay Aiken - Season Two's runner up continues to dominate Rueban Studdard, the winner of Idol's Season Two in record sales. He has sold 4,850,000 albums to date and has released five albums. Though he has often been surrounded with controversy since reaching the spotlight, Aiken was American Idol's first contestant that proved you don't have to win the title of the show to succeed as an artist afterward. He set the standard for many runner's up who have followed behind him with successful recording careers.
5. Rueben Studdard - Season Two's velvet teddy bear and winner has held steady through controversy with the AI finale voting and over the course of his career. His album sales are steady as well. After four album releases his sales number comes in at 2,543,000.
6. Fantasia Barrino - The "Triple Threat" and winner of season three has been busy since her stint on American Idol. She's recorded and released two albums, had a role on Broadway in The Color Purple and is rumored to be creating a reality t.v. show to air this fall on VH1. Her record sales top out at 2,289,000 and averaging out to 1.1 million sales per album!
7. David Cook - After only a year of touring, writing and recording Season Seven's winner lands in a decent spot in total sales! Cook has already sold 1,223,000 albums in his short career and holds promise to be a strong AI alum in the years to come.
8. Kellie Pickler - This sweet southern belle from North Carolina has proven she is made for country music and has a personality that stretches out as far as the deep south. Her record sales top out at 1,111,000. Pickler has since been befriended by Pop and Country Mega-Sensation Taylor Swift and they have been touring the countryside this summer.
9. Jordin Sparks - Arizona native and winner of Season Six, Jordin Sparks has managed to successfully juggle her youth, education and stardom. Her sales total is growing by the day since her second album was only released a month ago but currently stands at 1,105,000.
10. Josh Gracin - Another Idol Country Music star, Gracin was the fourth runner up on Season Two. He finished his obligation and career in to the U.S. Marine Corps following the show and then got signed and released his debut album in 2004. His album sales total stands at 779,000.
And though it's yet to be determined how this year's American Idol winner, Kris Allen and runner up Adam Lambert will affect this list, you can bet they will be in the top ten in about a year from now!
