On Thursday Kanye West posted a blog debuting Drake's new video of his hit single, Best I Ever Had. Kanye himself was also releasing a debut of sorts since he directed the video. The storyline is simplistic using Drake as the coach for a sensuous and extraordinarily curvaceous ladies basketball team. The girls are shown stretching and prepping for a game in a steamy locker room while Drake remains in the hall or coaches office rapping. During the song there is a definite attempt at humor with his pre-game and last minute huddle speeches. And though the video isn't much of a masterpiece when compared to the likes of Thriller among others, the fun light hearted approach should be well received.
Rolling Stone's Rock and Roll Daily says Kanye's lack of experience in filmmaking is apparent reporting, "You can tell West is a relatively novice filmmaker, breaking the cinematic principle 180 degree rule a couple times during the clip," but goes on to admit he shows some potential saying, "But for the most part he establishes that he has a pretty keen cinematic eye."
Drake's debut, Best I Ever Had has put him in demand as a hot and rising star as well as atop the charts and iTunes top sellers. He recently signed a contract with Lil Wayne's Young Money Records. Lil Wayne has taken him on as a protege of sorts so that comes as no real surprise. Drake will also be a part of Lil Wayne's America's Most Wanted tour later this year. Universal Records will distribute his LP.
