The auditorium was already packed as one of the first two opening bands for Paramore began their set at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado last night. The Swellers rocked the eager crowd that arrived early to stake out their real estate on the vast expanse of floor in front of the stage. The sound literally "swelled" as did the audiences anticipation for music yet to come.
By the time Paper Route took the stage the atmosphere was electric, a perfect setting for this Ambient/Electronica band from Nashville. They wasted no time in lighting up the audio and acoustics of the theater and the crowd responded in kind. Their set included many songs from their recently released album entitled Absense. "Carousel", "Are We All Forgotten" and "Enemy Among Us" were at the heart of the set and by the time they finished those songs the crowd was mesmerized. Raised hands clapped in time to the pulsating bass line as a wave of bodies swayed the masses in the center of the auditorium. And the band themselves seemed to be "Carried Away" as their lyrics chanted to the infectious melodies they delivered while performing "Gutter". It was obvious why Paramore asked Paper Route to open for them as they could easily have been the band headlining and the crowd was clearly enamored with their sound and performance.
With the stage now perfectly set, Paramore stormed it and took the crowd to the next level with seasoned efficiency. Front lady Hayley Williams lead the fever laden crowd through Paramore's classic hits "Decode" and "That's What You Get" as well as music from the new album with tracks like "Ignorance" and "Looking Up". She paused to don a hat that a fan threw on the stage and later tweeted about it saying, "... I love this hat." and posted a picture of herself wearing it backstage.
Of course Paramore saved the best for last starting with an acoustic version of "Misguided Ghosts" for the encore before launching into "Misery Business". And there was no misery or love lost between Denver, Paramore or Paper Route. Hayley openly expressed to the crowd as the set wore down how much fun the band was having and how amazing the crowd was and then later Tweeted again, "No buts about it... Denver has won. Best crowd of the tour. I had so much fun tonight. Whatchu got San Fran?!"
This is absolutely a live show and musical line up that you don't want to miss and in some opinions could be billed as one of the best line ups for the Fall 2009 Concert season. They have two shows remaining before they leave the US to rock Europe.
