This morning on Good Morning America another excerpt from Rihanna's exclusive interview with 20/20 was aired. Prior to this interview with Diane Sawyer neither Rihanna or her estranged ex-boyfriend Chris Brown had broken their silence about the abuse that took place on the eve of the Grammy awards in February of 2009.
During the excerpt aired this morning Rihanna reveals what happened with Chris Brown inside their rented Lamborghini. She admits that the argument on Feb. 8th that lead to her beating was fueled by a text message Brown received from another woman. She told Sawyer, "I caught him in a lie and he wouldn’t tell the truth. I wouldn’t drop it. I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me and he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it. So it escalated into him being violent towards me and… it was ugly."
Rihanna also disclosed that the young couples relationship became "obsessive" quickly saying, "We just fell really fast. The more in love we became, the more dangerous we’d become for each other, equally as dangerous." She called Brown her "first big love".
During the assault Rihanna described Brown's eyes as empty while he repeatedly punched her and still drove the vehicle. "That’s all I kept thinking the whole time. When’s it going to stop, when’s it going to stop? He had no soul in his eyes, just blank. He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked to him. I was bleeding, I was swelling in my face."
And despite all of that she still wishes Brown well and even returned to him once after the assault before finally breaking it off for good. She said, "I don’t hate him at all. I actually love and care about him. I’m concerned about him doing well. I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life and grow up. Just take this as something you had to go through to grow up."
Chris Brown will have his chance to tell his side of the story on MTV News tonight at 6 p.m. To see the complete interview with Rihanna tonight tune into 20/20 on ABC at 10 p.m. EST.
