It's been a long wait for Amerie fans since her 2005 album Touch but you're about to find out that this R&B diva is worth waiting for! Amerie's third studio album In Love and War will be released within hours and will mark her debut with new label, Def Jam Records.
Early on in her career Amerie established herself as one of R&B's freshest, most exciting artists and she continues to stay the course. Her personal evolution spills into her work as she fearlessly carves out her own unique brand and sound. This time around Amerie experimented with crisp rock guitar riffs, hip hop funk and soul. She has said of In Love and War that it is a deeply personal album and the songs are based on her own relational experiences or those of friends she has been on the front lines to witness. The end result is an compilation of songs stamped with her very heart and soul.
The debut single for In Love and War entitled, "Why R U" hit airwaves in June and is a song she feels best encompasses who she is as an artist right now. Infused with 90's inspired beats the track is catchy and a dynamic first look at an album that grabs at your emotions and auditory senses. "Pretty Brown" is another Hip Hop/Soul track produced by Australian producer M-Phases and featuring Trey Songz. The simple arrangement of electronic beats in the background make room for the vocals to dominate the harmony and melody second only to the strong storyline they deliver.
Other artists featured on the album include the everywhere right now Lil Wayne on the track "Heard 'Em All Remix" and the just as hot Fabolous on "More Than Love". Fabolous and Amerie vibe to a smooth jazzy throwback sound, on a break up track that pauses for a very realistic argument. While Lil Wayne does his thing and hits it hard in the remix with his clever MC style. The single "Dear John" slows the album up a bit for quiet reflection to soft piano accompaniment.
But perhaps the most appropriate track "Tell Me You Love Me" sets the pace for the album. Combining a strong mix of synthesized horns, guitar and defined bass line Amerie pulls the listener in with her vocals almost demanding you to sit up and take note singing, "I'm gonna make you love me". If you do pay attention by the end of the album you will love what you hear!
