It's Saturday again! Time for Readers' Toolbox!
Remember from The Power of Laughter: "Humor helps us to think out of the box. The average child laughs about 400 times per day, the average adult laughs only 15 times per day. What happened to the other 385 laughs?" Anonymous
385 laughs?!! How can we get them back!
Do you have any sure fire tricks and tips for keeping laughter in your early childhood environment? Do you help your coworkers to giggle? Let's not forget parents! We all know that laughter is GOOD for us: it has been shown to reduce stress, boost the immune system, shift us to a more positive mindset, and connect us to others. We could all use a good laugh, don't you think? By sharing your ideas you add to each other's toolboxes!
I'll go first:
While visiting a local child care center to provide technical assistance for Keystone STARS I found myself in need of the ladies room. There, hanging in a convenient location for visitors to this particular room, I found a piece of reading material: "How to go to the bathroom at work" filled with hilarious advice on ... well, use your imagination! It made me laugh right out loud, and it made me realize that THIS administrator understood the power of laughter! It gave me insight into why this felt like such a happy place, and I could see that they were actively getting back the 385!
Okay... now it's your turn!
