The San Jose Sharks placed defenseman Rob Blake on injured reserve today and have recalled defenseman Derek Joslin to take his spot in the lineup.

Blake was injured in yesterday’s 3-2 shootout win over Columbus. The team captain left in the second period of the game with an upper body injury. It is not known how long he will be out of action.

For Joslin, this is his second stint with the Sharks. He appeared in two games earlier this season posting two penalty minutes and a +2 rating.

The 22-year old is tied for second in scoring among Worcester defensemen with five points (0-5=5). He has played 10 games for the Sharks top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

The Sharks road trip continues tonight in Detroit against the Red Wings. The faceoff is 4:30pm pst and it is the first meeting of the two rivals this season.
