Two of the biggest names in the history of country music are combining for what promises to be one of 2010's hottest tours.
Hailed as the “King of Country,” George Strait has announced an arena tour with one of country's leading ladies, Reba McEntire. The tour will kick off Jan. 22, in Baltimore, MD, and conclude April 10, in Des Moines, IA.
Strait's latest release, Twang, was issued Aug. 11, becoming his fourth record to debut in the top spot on the Billboard 200, and 13th album to enter the Top Country Albums chart at No. 1. Overall, he has 57 No. 1 hits, 33 multi-platinum albums, and holds the record for the most CMA wins, as well as a record 17 CMA Entertainer of the Year nominations.
Strait is nominated for Entertainer of the Year in this year's CMA's, which will be televised live Nov. 11 on ABC.
“I can’t wait to get back out there and perform some of my new favorites from Twang along with hits the fans already love,” he said in a statement. “And with my friend Reba, we will make it a really spectacular night.”
McEntire will be touring in support of Keep On Loving You, which was released a week after Twang, and also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, a first for Reba, who has won the American Music Award for Favorite Female Artist a record 15 times. This year marks the 23rd time she's been nominated for the award, which will be presented live Nov. 22, also on ABC.
At last year’s CMA Awards, Strait became the artist with the most CMA awards in history with Album of the Year for Troubadour and Single of the Year for “I Saw God Today.” He adds four nominations this year with Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Video of the Year for “Troubadour” and Vocal Event of the Year for “Everything But Quits” with LeeAnn Womack.
His platinum-selling Troubadour was named Best Country Album at the 51st Grammy Awards, and in April Strait became the fifth artist to ever receive the Academy of Country Music's Artist of the Decade honor. With a career spanning more than 25 years, Strait has more No. 1 hits than any other artist in history. He has sold more than 67 million records, and his 33 different platinum albums are the most ever in country music, and third all-time behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
One of the most successful female recording artists in history, Reba has sold more than 55 million albums worldwide, earned 33 No. 1 singles, and was recently recognized as the biggest female hit-maker in country music history by Billboard, Mediabase and Country Aircheck. She is the winner of 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, 9 People’s Choice Awards, 7 Country Music Awards and 2 Grammy Awards.
With 11 No. 1 albums, Reba holds the record for most No. 1 albums by a female artist in the history of the Billboard Top Country Albums char.
