It was either a poorly played marketing gimmick, a temporary lapse in judgment, or a sign of more drama to come for the band Aerosmith.
But at least for now, Steven Tyler is insisting he's still in the band, and Joe Perry doesn't seem to be arguing.
Tyler joined Perry onstage in New York City last night (watch video below), where the Joe Perry Project was headlining the Fillmore at Irving Plaza. After a brief, good-natured exchange - that didn't seem like a surprise to Perry - the frontman led his guitarist's solo band on a run through Aerosmith's "Walk This Way."
"New York, I want you to know I'm not leaving Aerosmith," Tyler said. "Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors, but I, motherf***er, am the rainbow!"
Did Perry jump the gun with his Twitter announcement that the band were looking for a new frontman? Or was that the motivation Tyler needed to return to the fold? Could it have all been a publicity stunt to peak interest in both their solo careers, as well as Aerosmith?
I'm sure it won't be long before we're offered an explanation... Of some sort.
