He's from the sun, but he finds the earth a lot cooler, so he's made our planet his home.  Meet Gustafer Yellowgold, star of a "musical moving book" show that will be at McCabes Guitar shop on Sunday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m.

Brainchild of illustrator/songwriter/performer Morgan Taylor, Gustafer Yellowgold concerts are a one-of-a-kind blend of live music and moving image, projected in vivid color onto a large screen. Time Out NY Kids described the show as “Equal parts concert, animated movie and alternative comedy act."

While kids learn the story of how Gustafer came to the earth and made friends with Forrest Applecrumbie, a pterodactyl, a pet eel named Slim (short for Slimothy) and a dragon named Asparagus, adults will be refreshed by the tuneful, mellow nature of the songs, which can be sampled at www.gustaferyellowgold.com/.

Taylor's Gustafer Yellowgold act has been the opener for Wilco and The Polyphonic Spree, as well as headlining kids’ venues all across the U.S. and internationally.  Lisa Loeb and members of Wilco also perform on the CD, appropriately titled, "Mellow Fever."

The first thing that jumps out at weary-eared parents, O.D.'d on the repetitive, bouncified tunes from other children's acts like The Wiggles and their ilk is the  harmonious acoustic sounds of the downtempo songs and Taylor's evocative lyrics:

Sometimes I sleep in the bluebird tree

dream the kind of dreams only I can see

it really is a sight

nothing in the night can touch me

beneath a rock

inside a sock

in a fireplace

in outer space

on a mountaintop

in cardboard box

to get away everybody needs a place

Taylor's work has been described as "An interesting bridge between adult and kids’ music.”  In other words, you won't want to beg for mercy when the kids ask to hear the CD one more time.
