Maine Education Fast Stat: “The Maine Department of Education is in close communication with the Maine Center for Disease  Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) on the status of identified H1N1 (swine flu) and is in frequent communication with school officials with updates on the latest recommendations and guidance for schools.” [source]

Did you know there are schools in Maine participating in the administering of flu vaccinations? (Note: this is not the swine flu vaccine, but rather the influenza vaccine.) Here is a link containing more information: Gov. Baldacci proclaims civil emergency due to H1N1: Schools and health care providers are protected against liability claims related to vaccine clinics. Keep in mind, this is not a mandatory vaccination and parents do have a choice not to have their child or children participate.

According to permission slips issued in some school districts (if not all), parents must attend if their children are in grade 2 or below. The rest of the students do not require parents to attend, but they may if they wish to do so. In the “fine print,” parents should make note of the fact that a second influenza vaccine is administered to those who have never received a shot before, and that a date will be given to parents as to when that will happen.
