Jon E. Pomeroy, the man who allowed his daughter to be starved nearly to death, has pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal mistreatment almost a year after being charged.

Pomeroy and his wife, Rebecca A. Long, were charged after police discovered Pomeroy's daughter in the couple's home.  The girl had been starved to a weight of just 48 pounds and appeared to be about as half as old as she was.  Details soon emerged that Pomeroy and Long had been restricting the girls water intake to six ounces a day and even went as far as to watch her bathe so she wouldn't sneak water and punished her for sneaking water out of the toilet.  The couple was charged on Oct. 13th and quickly pleaded not guilty.

Pomeroy will reportedly be sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison, an absolute shame for such a monstrous man.  The girl will never recover physically and will have a long road psychologically and yet he loses only a little over three years of his life for inflicting horrible pain on the child.

His wife, Rebecca A. Long, who infamously maintained a knitting blog during the time of the torture, featuring happy pictures of the family minus the imprisoned girl, is maintaining her not guilty plea.  She faces only between 31 and 41 months if convicted

Pomeroy's plea at least adds a but of closure to the case, but also reiterates the absolute shame of this case.  For nearly killing his daughter throughout a pro-longed bout of torture, he receives less time than petty marijuana smugglers and has the ability to continue his life by 2012.

Long seems intent on going to trial.  After all, even if sentenced to the longest possible term, she faces only five more months than Pomeroy is likely to get.  Her trial has been delayed time and time again based on continuances (updates have been supplied by our diligent readers), as I'm sure prosecutors would rather get the guilty plea and 36 months rather than waste time in court with such a monster.

Check back for more information on the sentencing when it becomes available.
