Parents of starved Carnation girl plead not-guilty

Rebecca A. Long and Jon Pomeroy, the parents of a 14-year-old Carnation girl who was found starved to less than 50 pounds in their home earlier this year, have pled "not-guilty" to criminal mistreatment.
The couple, who held hands tightly throughout the hearing, were ordered by Superior Court judge Cheryl Carey to avoid all contact with the abused girl and their apparently healthy son.
I don't think I'll ever be able to hear these peoples names or read about this case without my blood starting to boil. What's really starting to get me now is that they seem prepared to not take full responsibility for their actions. It's almost laughable that they could even be allowed to enter this plea. When someone is this guilty, I feel like they should just go straight to prison.
And shame on Jon Pomeroy for doing nothing to stop what was happening to his own flesh and blood at the hands of his wicked wife. According to official court documents, he was aware of the situation but "chose not to interfere." Sickening.
There's no further news on how the girl is doing in foster care. Last reports had her having gained 20 pounds, but dealing with stomach issues because she wasn't used to eating. I wish her the best in the rest of her life, hoping these animals having already ruined it completely.
Their next court date is scheduled for Nov. 18.
