The bugles of rutting elk in the Colorado Rocky Mountains can be a big draw to bowhunters and tourists alike. Many a mountain town like Estes Park, Grand Lake, or Winter Park are known for their cohabitation with these majestic monarchs, but recently Loveland Colorado increased its population by a few more lovesick cloven hoofed suburbanites.
Loveland sits just off of I-25 about 50 miles north of Denver and just 10 miles south of Fort Collins. It seems this small herd of 20 or so elk found living in this Denver bedroom community more to their liking than the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Mike Rossi, a bowhunter and neighbor to the newest Loveland transplants, states "I love leaving the windows open in the morning and evening and listening to the bulls bugling back and forth." Even though archery season is over these elk would still be fair game if they were outside the city limits as the elk rifle hunting season opens this weekend.
These elk apparently did their homework when relocating because they have the perfect habitat, zero hunting pressure, and the school system in Loveland is top notch.
