Everybody loves a good monster movie once in a while, but what if the monster was us? That is part of the premise in the new biological borefest which is "The Thaw".
This is the kind of horror film that Al Gore would make. It is so over saturated with Global Warming scares that it begins to get a little too preachy. Not to mention that the film quality looks about as good as watching a Sci-Fi Channel movie of the week.
Val Kilmer plays a scientist who unearths a frozen Woolly Mammoth in northern Canada. When the animal thaws it releases these nasty little parasites that must have froze along with the creature. These parasites burrow into the body and lay millions of eggs. Before you know it they hatch causing a lethal infestation within your body.
This movie could have been great with a little bit more money and some better casting. The film obviously borrows from "The Thing" without ripping it off. This movie is part of the Ghosthouse Underground line up for this year. These movies in this series normally are ones to avoid with the exception of the excellent "The Children".
If you are in the mood for a movie to waste a couple hours with while waiting for your friends to call, then this is the one. Although not horrible, also not worth it either. Put this one back on ice permanently!
