Kevin Coble cracks position power rankings
Say what you will about power rankings, but they draw fans in and create discussion.
And seeing a Northwestern player listed among the top 25 in the country at his position is certainly guaranteed to create some discussion.
As you would expect, the player in question is Kevin Coble, who is now ranked No. 23 at the small forward position by
Rivals.com.
And why wouldn’t he rank up there?
So far Coble has torn up the Big Ten conference, averaging 17.9 points per game in the league, good enough for second best. Plus, he almost single-handedly helped defeat Michigan State with his 31 points.
Given his performance over the past week, there is no way you could deny him his place in the rankings.
While there is no denying his shooting skills, Coble lacks some of the strength of others in the rankings.
That could explain why Coble is only the No. 4 small forward in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State’s Evan Turner, Purdue’s Robbie Hummel and Michigan State’s Raymar Morgan.
Both Hummel and Morgan have struggled as of late. Morgan can attribute his performance to the flu, but Hummel has no excuse to pin his game on.
So with those two players slipping and two games at home this week against Indiana and Wisconsin, Coble has a good chance to keep climbing the rankings.
That could mean more accolades at the end of the season for a player who has been a human highlight film thus far.
