A Barrington woman, who has a previous felony DUI conviction, allegedly crashed her SUV while drunk, sending it flying through the air into her neighbor's house.
Police say that 55 year old Elaine Enger had a blood alcohol level 4 times higher than the legal limit, and crashed her BMW X3 into a curb, throwing the SUV into the air and then down into her neighbor's house, after going through a fence and a tree. Investigators say the car was airborne for 140 feet, indicating speed well in excess of the posted 25 MPH limit. Enger suffered minor injuries, and the neighbor's house suffered structural damage that rendered it temporarily unsafe to inhabit. Enger is currently being held without bond on a felony DUI charge, which carries up to 7 years in prison.
Enger pled guilty last year to a felony DUI, relating to a 2007 arrest for drunk driving. She was sentenced to probation for this crime, and prosecutors are now attempting to revoke that probation in light of this recent alleged DUI.
