Earlier this evening, accused killer John Allen Muhammad was put to death by lethal injection. Louisiana Special Attorney General John Sinquefield indicated last Tuesday that if John Allen Muhammad, the accused ‘DC Sniper’, is put to death, charges in connection with the Baton Rouge, Louisiana killing would likely be dropped. Muhammad was charged with first degree murder and armed robbery in the shooting death of Hong Im Ballanger.
Ballanger was shot and killed on September 23, 2002 as she closed her Florida Boulevard beauty supply store that evening. Muhammad’s accomplice in the shootings, Lee Boyd Malvo, was seventeen at the time of those crimes. He cannot receive the death penalty due to a U. S. Supreme Court ruling dealing with the age of offenders. It is unclear at this time if the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office will pursue charges against Malvo.
Muhammad was born and raised in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.
