Last month, on an unassuming Tuesday night, I stopped to visit a friend at Antioch University. She had an exuberant light in her eye, and extended an invitation: "Come to Greendrinks!" Last I checked, we were well-past St. Paddy's day, but curiosity got the best of me. In hindsight, I can honestly say, it was a twist of fate that literally changed my life.
Greendrinks is city-by-city initiative to bring environmentally-focused people together. The fine folks at Sierra Nevada are consistent sponsors...along with a rotating group of hosts. My first night, I was stunned to find well over 200 people deeply engaged in conversation. The room was packed ...and I had to resurrect a night club-style shimmy to make my way through the crowd. Sure, free beer will bring out the masses, right? No, it's much more than that.
I fully intended to make a cameo appearance, but found myself engaged in one fascinating conversation after another. I met an instructor teaching a master's class on the Politics of Food, an intrepid traveler who just returned from a photo trip to China, level-headed activists, documentary filmmakers, authors, political staffers, and other folks in-the-environmental-know.
If you want to jump in on the fun, tonight's the night. Before you go, there are two key things to know: Greendrinks is about sustainability, so you'll need to bring your own beverage vessel. (I picked up this John Deere beauty at Value Village.) And key point number two: there's a new location every month. Below is the scoop for October, but if you want updates about future Greendrinks events, sign up here.
