Eager listeners at the New Bern Tea Party
Eager listeners at the New Bern Tea Party

Governor Perdue was called a back stabber at the New Bern Tea Party. There were speakers from many walks of life and a number of Veterans from several wars.

The common thread? They are not pleased with the direction the government is going.

Many spoke of loss of freedom, the current Health Care Debate and many consider themselves betrayed by Government at all levels.

Governor Perdue was criticized for her raising of taxes and unwillingness to reduce government size to match government income. One phrase heard was the idea that she has stabbed the taxpayers in the back.

The event, sponsored and co ordinated by the CCTA (Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association), took place on Saturday afternoon at Union Point Park in New Bern. The NRA had a booth, explaining the purpose of the organization and signing up new members.

In addition to the speakers, the CCTA had literature and information about a number of issues available.

Many in the crowd had signs indicating their displeasure with big government and excessive regulation in the lives of Americans. All age groups were present, as well as occupations ranging from farms to manufacturing employees and owners and professionals.

"Taxpayers have a voice" and "Craven County has a voice" were two phrases used to describe this peaceful assembly on the banks of the Neuse river.

A fitting reminder of an earlier time when New Bern was the scene of meetings prior to the American Revolution and was the Colonial Capital.

No government is more powerful than the people...and they will not go quietly into the night, nor suffer the rule of tyrants...The people have a voice.
