
As ringmasters House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate leader Harry Reid whip the Democrats into line, comedian Al Franken has been declared the winner of the senate race in Minnesota. That should give the Senate Democrats the majority needed to prevent a filibuster.
However one joker may not be under their control--Alan Specter. He will be thinking more about getting reelected than leaping on Pelosi and Reid's bandwagon whenever they crack the whip.
Franken will have to keep in mind that he won the election by only 321 votes while leaving many voters ballots uncounted. It could be that he won't be willing to turn cartwheels for Pelosi or Reid if he thinks that could keep him from being reelected.
