MLB Hits a Home Run with DVD Buyers
It all started in 2004. After the Boston Red Sox completed their epic run towards their first championship since 1918, a
massive DVD set was soon released. It contained all seven ALCS games versus the Yankees, the entire World Series sweep of the Cardinals, plus an additional disc of bonus features. Every fall classic since then has received similar treatment.
But it didn’t stop there. Major League Baseball decided to open its vaults so that people could relive brilliant postseason pitching from
Bob Gibson and Cole Hamels, as well as memorable home runs from the likes of
Carlton Fisk,
Kirby Puckett, and Derek Jeter. Even memorable regular season moments including Cal Ripken’s streak and David Cone’s perfect game have been digitally preserved.
Originally conceived as a way to keep our men overseas well informed, the World Series highlight film has also made a comeback. From the Yankees in 1943 to the Phillies in 2008, a
lavish 20-disc set containing every film is about to be released. For those who simply cannot fathom even watching a movie or television show more than once, this is not for you. For everyone else, I say, “play ball!”
