I had seen the television commercials for the electronics and computer expo being held at the State Fairgrounds this weekend.  It is advertised as a huge liquidation event, so naturally, I felt compelled to see what the fuss is all about.  Let's just say that I wish I would have kept my cash in my account for this one.

It was $8 per person at the door, so me and my fiance started off $16 in the hole before we even walked to the first booth.  This already turned me off to the idea of coming here to try to save some money.  Another visitor standing next to me made the remark, "This event will cost us $24 to just go look around."

The first items on display were MP3 players designed to resemble an iPod, but of course the software running the MP3 players looked nothing like the iPod's interface.  The commercial shows several MP3 players that do resemble iPod's, but mark my words, no iPod's were found at any of the booths.

The commercial also shows decent looking laptop computers for sale, but I could not find one laptop that was new out of the box.  I wasn't expecting to see laptop's for sale that you might find at your local Best Buy, but I was expecting to see something a little more recent.  Every refurbed laptop was also selling between the price range of $300 - $900.

Everything else was a hodgepodge of crap.  Knock off sunglasses and coats, and some other items that did not really draw attention.  By the way, how is it possible that people do not get arrested when selling pirated music CD's?  The software vendor was even selling software which clearly read, "Not For Resale" labeled directly on the disc.

My advice:  Save your money.  If you need a laptop, take your $400 to a Best Buy and by a low-end new laptop rather than a low-end refurbished one from this expo.  Although I will add that the guy selling the old Nintendo video games was very kind and if he would've accepted credit cards, I would have purchased his system.  We also walked away with 1200 thread count sheets, but no software.
