Acupuncture history
Acupuncture is a 5,000-year-old element of traditional Chinese therapy. It's used to treat a host of conditions ranging from migraine headaches to weight loss. Acupuncture can be combined with other therapies, and may aid those who are either unable to take medications or do not experience adequate relief with medication alone.
Acupuncture works by…
Acupuncture is based on the theory of balancing Yin and Yang (the opposing energies in the body). Acupuncture works by stimulating pressure points, which release endorphins, increase circulation and block pain. There are more than 1,000 pressure points in the body. Acupuncture needles are placed strategically in these points, corresponding with the condition.
Acupuncture for pain relief
Because acupuncture needles are extremely slender, the application is not painful. Some individuals feel energized, while others are relaxed after treatment.
Natural healing with acupuncture
Acupuncture is a natural healing component, used to treat acute conditions like the common cold or chronic conditions like arthritis, back pain, migraine headaches, asthma and sciatica. Acupuncture is also used to break addictions like smoking and overeating.
Holistic practitioners
Acupuncture is generally safe, but finding a credentialed acupuncturist is key. Rare injuries have been associated with the treatment, such as punctured organs. These injuries, however, are extremely uncommon among those who are licensed and experienced.
While the results of acupuncture are not guaranteed, the practice has endured for generations and despite modern advances in medicine, natural healing with acupuncture is still sought by many.
