Just call them the Montreal Bulldogs. After calling up Sergei Kostitsyn on Monday and J.T. Wyman on Tuesday, the Canadiens looked to their farm team again on Wednesday, plucking diminutive centre (he’s listed as 5-foot-6 on the AHL site, 5-foot-7 in the press release) David Desharnais from the Hamilton Bulldogs.
He joins the team in Pittsburgh, where they get set to face the Penguins tonight at Mellon Arena.
Desharnais becomes the fifth player to get the call to the big club and the fourth who could make his NHL debut, after Ryan White, Tom Pyatt and Wyman. Whether he gets that chance hinges on the status of a resurgent Andrei Kostitsyn. According to Marc-Antoine Godin of La Presse, the winger could miss tonight's contest.
The 23-year-old Quebec City native has 10 points in seven games with the Bulldogs. He made his AHL season debut earlier this month after missing the first month and change with a broken foot.
