ASHLEY GREENE

Say what you will about the pop juggernaut that is Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, the fact that one of its supporting cast is able to shine through the blinding glare of its two leads, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and garner her own fanbase and career buzz, speaks volumes about her talent and appeal.  I am speaking, of course, about Twilight’s own Alice Cullen: Ashley Greene.

Ashley Michele Greene was born on February 21st, 1987, in Jacksonville, Florida to Joe Greene (a concrete construction businessman) and Michele Greene (an insurance agent).  Ashley attended University Christian School and Wolfson High School where she studied acting, dancing and tae kwan do.  She has one older brother, Joe Jr.  When she was 17, Ashley graduated from high school early and moved to Los Angeles to seek a career as a model.  Says Ashley: "I think it was more gutsy for my parents than it was for me.  It was what I wanted to do; it seemed logical to me.  But my parents, for them to think, 'Oh yeah, we'll support you doing that at 17' ... that was a gutsy move for them.  A lot of parents thought they were crazy, but they trusted me."  Ashley’s mother briefly went to California to help her get set up with an apartment and utilities.  "I had no idea what any of that stuff was," Ashley says. "You don't realize how easy it is living with your parents."  Once in L.A. however, those in the field told her she wasn’t tall enough to strut the runway (she is 5’5”), and was encouraged to take acting and commercial classes.  Ashley did, and quickly caught the acting bug.

ASHLEY GREENE AS ALICE CULLEN

After getting small roles in TV fare like Crossing Jordan, Shark, Mad TV and Ashton Kuthcher’s Punk’d, Ashley got the casting coup of her life when she was hired to play Alice Cullen in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight.  A fan of all of the books before the movie was even announced, Ashley was a little starstruck when she finally got to meet the author, saying, “Stephenie Meyer was so pleasant.  She really is a sweet and talented woman I was a little nervous to meet her, but the second we sat down and began chattering away, I was completely comfortable.  I'm very excited I was able to meet her!”

Says Meyer about first seeing a picture of Ashley: "You found Alice! Oh my gosh."

On future plans (besides the fast tracked Twilight sequels), Ashley says, “I really would love to do a piece like Julia Roberts or Charlize Theron in 'Erin Brockovich' or 'North Country.'  They were both so amazing and so inspiring.  I would love to touch someone in the way they're performances touched me.”  In addition to her desire to do serious drama, Ashley has also stated that she would like to do action movies, she would like to play Wonder Woman, and she would love to be a Bond girl.  Regarding that last, she says, "I don't know if I'm old enough yet.  But give me time."

ASHLEY GREENE

Ashley lives in Los Angeles.  When she isn’t working, she likes to read, shop, hike, surf, and cliff dive.  Among the nicknames that friends call her are Chewy (Bear) and Asher.  Regarding her idols, she says, "I love love, love Audrey Hepburn.  She's so timeless and classically beautiful.  Geena Davis is also great.  'Long Kiss Goodnight' was a favorite of mine for a while.  Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Felicity Huffman are some others I look up to."

Whatever the future holds for this stunningly beautiful actress, this writer sees major stardom ahead for her.

"I am trying to keep the character pretty similar to the book.  Everyone has a different take though.  I don't want to give anything away, but I am trying to give the character layers that people may not have picked up on.  Most people see her as a cheerful cute bubbly girl, and there is just so much more to Alice than that."

"Well, physically, there are a few differences.  At this point I think we all know I'm much, much taller which much longer hair.  I relate somehow with any character but this one is a little different considering she is a vampire who can see the future.  I do have the same intense love for my family I'm very blessed to have such an amazing family.  And I care a lot about others feelings, I would never want to intentionally hurt anyone."
