With nearly all local schools and many businesses closing to honor Veterans Day on November 11, 2009, there are many activities to fill the time. As it is a day for remembrance, it is also an opportunity for teaching our children about the sacrifices made by our fellow Americans. Depending on children's age and maturity level, parents can give an in-depth history lesson or a simple description of what the day is about. Following are several places you can visit where ceremonies will be held:
In Alexandria, VA, Mount Vernon Estates will have free admission for all active duty military personnel and veterans, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with non military cost $13.00 for adults and $6.00 for children. Enjoy a live concert by the All-Veteran Barbershop Chorus at 11:00 AM. There will also be a wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of President George Washington at 2:00 PM.
