Fantastic wine dinner, lady racers, and 42Below Vodka winner

August 19, 5:50 PM
by Anne Boone-Simanski, Baltimore Events Examiner

Managing Partner Bryson Keens at the anniversary party
4th Annual Island Hop at Roy’s in Baltimore

Let me start by telling you I have attended tons of wine dinners. All very nice, but none like the one we attended at Roy’s, Inner Harbor recently. You can tell that Roy’s Managing Partner, Bryson Keens loves his job by being an active participant in the evening’s festivities. Not only were we treated to a fine Hawaiian 5-course meal inspired by the islands wonderful cooking ingredients and techniques, there was hula lotta fun going on too.  Folio wine guy, Jamie Conahan educated us on the great grape, that was paired with the fine fusion and Bryson followed with a test of our listening skills, with prizes!

Every person in the sold-out event left with a full tummy and a smile. Make sure to put September 25th on your calendar and meet the man behind the name on the door. Come celebrate with me at Roy’s 20th anniversary!

When: Thursday, September 25th (Seating from 5:00pm - 9:30pm)
Cost: $100 per guest (excludes tax & gratuity)
Info: During this extraordinary event, Roy Yamaguchi will personally be preparing two courses, including a succulent Kona Kampachi & Oyster amuse bouche and a decadent entrée compilation of Duck, Bison & Foie Gras Sushi. With exciting Celebrity Chef Teams competing against each other to create three more captivating courses, the real winner will be you!

Brendan, enjoying his win!

42Below Vodka sponsored the 5th Annual Cocktail World Cup right here in Charm City recently…And the winner is…Brendan Dorr, from the lovely Ixia Restaurant, off Charles Street, in Baltimore.

His “Queen Bee” concoction wowed the judges including Baltimore’s Queen of Rock, Sarah Fleischer-98 Rock.

“The Ixia drink was not only tasty, but its presentation was gorgeous,” Fleischer shared.

Next stop for him will be the finals of the World Cup held in New Zealand on September 9th. Congrats, Brendan!

The Iron Girl Columbia is August 24 at Centennial Park; the event is composed of a .62 mile swim, a 17.5-mile bike ride and a 3.4-mile run, and supports the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, which is based in Howard County. One group heavily involved in the race is “Team Fight,” which is led by professional tri-athlete Laurel Wassner, a cancer survivor, whose twin sister Rebeccah “Bec-Bec” Wassner, won the Columbia Triathlon this past May. Laurel will lead a team of 33 racers between of 21 and 60 who will use the Iron Girl to raise money for the Ulman Cancer Foundation.
