BANKING MEALS FOR HOPE

CitiFinancial Employees Participate in the Maryland Food Bank’s Month of Giving through “Building Hope for a Hungry Family.”
On November 8 and 9, Citi employees will be collecting food outside five Giant Food locations to provide an extra 12,000 pounds of food for the hungry. The campaign is called “Building Hope for a Hungry Family,” and will be the culminating event of a three-week Citi food drive in which they anticipate raising enough food to provide 9,600 extra meals this holiday season.
Citi employees will be collecting canned goods to fill huge cardboard boxes or totes at the Giant Food locations listed below.
- White Marsh (7944 Honeygo Blvd, White Marsh, MD 21236);
- Columbia (8805 Centre Park Drive, Columbia MD 21045);
- Bel-Air (1401 Rock Spring Road, Bel-Air, MD 21014),
- Baltimore-National Pike (6223-25 Baltimore-National Pike, Baltimore, MD 21228); and
- Waverly (601 East 33rd Street, Baltimore, MD 21218).
They will be collecting this food from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “The Maryland Food Bank is distributing more food than ever before,” comments Maryland Food Bank CEO Deborah Flateman. “Shelves are critically low at the Maryland Food Bank, which is why we’ve declared November ‘the month of giving’ for the Maryland Food Bank and we are providing people with several opportunities to donate food and funds to those that are hungry in the state.”

In addition to Building Hope for a Hungry Family, the Maryland Food Bank will also be collecting food through perennial favorite food drives like Stuff-A-Bus on November 22 and the Ravens Family Food and Funds Drive on November 23. If you can’t attend any of these events, donate online through the Maryland Food Bank’s virtual food drive at www.mdfoodbank.org.
For all food drives, please bring non-perishable food! Most needed items include: canned fruits and vegetables, cereals, pasta, rice, peanut butter and canned meats. If you’re not interested in lugging around those heavy items—make a monetary donation! For every $1 donated, the Maryland Food Bank can process 4 pounds of donated food.
The Maryland Food Bank supplies food to hungry Marylanders by gathering excess and donated grocery products, and then distributes them to charitable food providers. The new mission statement of this organization is to lead the movement and nurture the belief that together we can improve the lives of all Marylanders by ending hunger. The Maryland Food Bank has facilities in Baltimore and Salisbury comprising nearly 107,000 square feet of warehouse, refrigerator and freezer space. The Maryland Food Bank, now in its 29th year of operation, distributes more than 14 million pounds of food annually through its statewide network of 1,000 affiliated food distribution agencies. The Maryland Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, and an honored recipient of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organization’s Award for Standards for Excellence in ethics and accountability in business.
