Last week, Chicago 2016 changed its tagline from "Stir the soul" to "Let friendship shine." I'm all for the Olympics in this fine city, but is that little bit of tinkering going to help our bid in any way? I'd prefer some gripping advertising over a simple tagline change.

If we go with an aggressive ad campaign, let's just make sure we don't make the mistake of the Reebok Dan and Dave theme featuring decathletes Dan O'Brien and Dave Johnson. That was a dud.

Here are several other tagline choices, to go along with a local theme:

  • "The Heart of a Champion" (Plenty of teams to choose from, though stay away from the Cubs.)
  • "Don't Stop Believin'" (The White Sox revived Journey with more success than Adam Sandler's gazillion references to hype up his love for Styx.)
  • "Almost Bigger Than Ditka" (There is an SNL Superfans skit somewhere in there.)
  • "Jordan Was Here" (This was M.J.'s domain for more than a decade.)
  • "Yes, We Can" (President Obama is a rock star of a winner.)
