The Examiner.com fantasy experts explain the thinking behind some of their picks:

Kyle Vamvakas (Denver)--When the Broncos travel to Washington D.C. this weekend to take on the Redskins it shouldn't be a surprise if their D/ST rack up the most fantasy points of any player on the field. The Redskins defense has quietly put together a solid season and the Broncos offense has come to a screeching halt since their bye week, so the fantasy stars won't be coming from that side of the ball for Denver. On the other hand, expect the Denver "D" to dismantle the nightmare that is the Washington offense, leading to a big day that will leave fantasy owners smiling.

Jonathan Roisman (Bay Area)--Frank Gore should have a big game Thursday. The Bears have the league’s 21st best rush defense and the 49ers are generally a run-first team. Also, Gore is averaging 5.6 yards a carry and he has five rushing touchdowns on the year already.

Deni Martin (Detroit)--If Saints QB Drew Brees wasn't having a spectacular season, Brett Favre would be the front runner for NFL MVP.  This week he faces a Lions secondary that is hurting physically and emotionally. Opposing QB's are completing an incredible 71% of their passes against Detroit. Can you sense Brett Favre grinning at the prospect of playing the Lions Sunday?

Kylan McQuaig (Philadelphia)--Ronnie Brown has cooled significantly after his red hot start to the season.  Brown has just one rushing touchdown and has averaged just over 40 yards rushing in the last three games.  But don’t be fooled.  Brown is still the focal point of this offense whether it be from the running back position or in the wildcat formation.  The Dolphins have finished the toughest part of their schedule and will be facing Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Buffalo in the next three weeks.  Brown should finish strong, cementing his place as one of this season’s top fantasy backs.

Which NFL player has been the biggest surprise in fantasy football this season?

Texans QB Matt Schaub (AP Photo/David Duprey)

Kyle--Texans QB Matt Schaub is currently the second highest-scoring player in standard fantasy formats. He is leading one of the most potent air attacks in the league on his way to leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns (he is currently tied with the Saints Drew Brees with 17 TDs). For a player who was picked up in the 5-7th rounds of most drafts his value has been exceptional.

Jonathan--Vernon Davis has definitely surprised me the most this year. While he had shown signs in the past that he could become a capable tight end, he’s gone above and beyond this season. He’s caught 42 passes for 477 yards through eight games this season, and he’s tied for first in the league in touchdown receptions with seven.

Deni--Wide receiver Miles Austin of Dallas is my pick.  Detroit fantasy fans were not that high on Roy Williams when he played for the Lions, so Austin's emergence is not a surprise to us.  Anyone who picked up Austin as a "sleeper" pick or as a free agent must feel like a genius this fantasy season.

Kylan--Cedric Benson has been a huge part of the rejuvenation of the Cincinnati Bengals this year.  He looked slow, out of shape, and injury-prone in his first four NFL seasons after being selected fourth overall in the 2005 draft.  Benson has already tied his career high with six touchdowns this season, and currently ranks second in the NFL with 837 yards rushing.  I am not sure anyone saw this type of production coming from Benson, making him the steal of many drafts in the late rounds.
