While many Denver Broncos fans would love to forget the thrashing handed out by the Steelers on Monday Night Football this week, one thing should not be forgotten by those who play fantasy football: the performance of Steelers rookie wide receiver Mike Wallace.
While fellow draft-mates Michael Crabtree of the 49ers and Darrius Heyward-Bey of the Raiders have received most of the media attention, it has been Pittsburgh's third-round pick from Mississippi that has turned in the most productive season. Through the first eight games of the season Wallace has accumulated 25 receptions for 437 yards and three scores. His 17.5 average per catch ranks fourth in the league.
In standard fantasy scoring Wallace has reached double-digits in four games, three of them coming in the past four weeks. With the Pittsburgh offense looking uncharacteristically-aggressive through the air and using a lot of multiple-receiver sets, and with Wallace firmly entrenched as the third wide receiver, great things are bound to happen. Wallace needs to be owned in all formats.
Other names to look for on the waiver-wire: 49ers WR Michael Crabtree should be owned in every league and is surprisingly available in too many of them. Houston RB Ryan Moats is an option if you find yourself thin at RB, but he probably won't get anywhere near his Week 8 performance. Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles should get some touches, but beware of the tough schedule remaining for Kansas City. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks of the Giants is also available in too many leagues and deserves to be owned.
