Thousands took the streets in Washington for a march Sunday, demanding equal marriage rights for the LGBT community.

Some came from near and some drove from far [like myself], but all who participated were ecstatic for the message of equality for everyone.

The march was a part of National Equality Day (Oct. 11).  Originally thought to become a low-key event, crowd estimates are thought to be around 500,000.

Starting at McPherson Square, the march continued down Pennsylvania Avenue until it concluded at a massive rally in front of the U.S. Capitol Building.

Men and women of all ages, races, and sexual orientations ran through the streets in hopes of joining the marchers from a side street.  Some carried signs, but most had a rainbow [flag] of some sort.

Protesters were rewarded at the end of the stretch by activist speakers, including some celebrities.  Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) took the stage, demanding that her marriage to Christine Mariononi be recognized nationally, so she could share the same basic rights as others.

Probably the most crowd-provoking speaker was pop star Lady Gaga.  When Lady Gaga's name was announced, the crowd erupted, and marchers could be seen running down Pennsylvania Avenue in order to make it in time to catch a glimpse.

After marching herself towards the capitol among the other protesters, she had a message for President Barack Obama.  "...in this country, equality shouldn't only be sometimes," said Lady Gaga.  "Obama, I know you are listening."

"Are you listening?!?!," she screamed.  This brought the rally to an explosive level of excitement.

But who knows if Obama was really listening or if he will take action to offer equal rights to the millions that demand it in this country.  We can only wait and see.
