Brothers, Oliver and Chris Wood have reunited musically to release a new album, Loaded produced by John Medeski of Medeski, Martin, Wood fame. Chris Wood, also of Medeski, Martin, Wood provides bass and vocals with brother Oliver playing Guitar and lending vocal support as well.
Loaded blends blues, folk, and rock that produces an intimate and engaging sound and that makes every track original and unique.
Loaded's lead track "Lovin Arms", featuring Oliver Wood on lead vocals and John Medeski on melodica and organ possesses a melancholy quality that catches you in the gut and won't let go. "Postcards from Hell", is reminiscent of an early Dylan sounding folk ditty with the catchy lyrical hook, "I got a soul that I won't sell and I don't read postcards from hell." "Loaded" is lyrically memorable track that memorializes alcohol's loosening effect on the tongue.
This CD is loaded with solid, well-written and well performed music which does not cater to any commercial genre. It is clear when listening to this CD that the Wood Brothers produced a project which reflected who they are and not what commercial radio may want an artist to be. Oliver being the blues player out of Atlanta and Chris doing his MMW thing out of New York have taken contrasting musical directions and come together to create a CD that is "loaded" with listening pleasure.
