For the Record: Steve Kimock Still Rocks - Just not so much at the Rams Head

July 28, 9:42 AM

I'm pretty new to this Examining stuff, so when I wrote my first negative comment about a performance I attended, I was rather thrown by the responses. Consequently, I need to clarify my earlier remarks regarding Mickey Hart's performance at the Rams Head, and more specifically, the performance of Steve Kimock.

I'm a huge Dylan fan.  I saw my first Dylan show when I was 17.  Dylan was so awful that I lost my voice booing him from the infield at Merriweather.  Despite this performance, I kept on listening to Dylan and finally saw a great Dylan performance in the late 1990s at Towson University.  Why did I hang in there so long?  I like Dylan and he's awesome.  Likewise, in my previous post, I made the obviously controversial assertion that Steve Kimock's performance at the Rams Head was less than stellar.  I stand by that observation. However, Steve Kimock is still a talented and accomplished artist whose resume and recording repertoire speak for itself.  The "dude" rocks.   Unfortunately the performance at the Rams Head was not so impressive.

Yes, when I spend money to see a live show, I like to be entertained, or at least led to believe that the musicians are glad to be there.  Musicians are human too.  We all have bad nights.  Whether Mr. Kimock's demeanor was due to his own personal mood or in reaction to some of the other musicians, I don't know.  But from where I was standing, it was clear that the guy was not happy!  Steve Kimock is a talented guitarist and I will go to see him again, but despite the impressive resume, that night at the Rams Head was not so impressive.

I'm sure I will be blasted for putting this in writing, but I seem to recall Jerry himself being guilty of occasionally not "bringing it" during a show or two, but that never stopped anyone from going to see him "bring it" the next time.   And by the way, do you folks really care that much about what I think?
