Tuesday July 14th, 7 PM: In honor of Bastille Day, Idlewild Books is hosting a reading and reception for Michael Steinberger's Au Revoir to All That: Food, Wine, and the End of France. Steinberger, wine editor for Slate, believes that French food culture is in a rut. In order to diagnose the problem he conducted a meandering trip through French cuisine, interviewing chefs and farmers on the best way to reestablish culinary dominance in the land of wine and cheese.
Tuesday July 14th, 7 PM: Jane Green, queen of the beach read, has a new sure-to-be-best-seller out, Dune Road. Set in another beachside Connecticut town, the novel follows newly-divorced mom Kit Hargrove, who discovers a dark secret about the reclusive writer who employs her that could upend the illustrious man's career as well as the sleepy small town itself. Hear Ms. Green read from her new work on Tuesday at the Barnes and Noble on 86th and Lexington.
Wednesday July 15th, 12:30-1:45 PM: What better place than the breezy and blooming Bryant Park Reading Room to attend a panel of authors discussing how to naturalize your urban space. Gotham Goes Green will feature Novella Carpenter, Vanessa Farquharson, Gabrielle Langholtz, and Tom Szaky, all of whom have written about the issue at length. If possible, get there early for a seat near enough to actually see the authors (you'll be able to hear them fine regardless) and to snag one of the few books for sale.
Thursday July 16th, 7 PM: Before President Obama rallied the youth vote and mobilized a new generation, another Democrat tried that tactic and nearly succeeded. Now Howard Dean has turned his attention to healthcare, founding the Democracy for America healthcare reform campaign and writing a new book. Dean will read from Howard Dean's Prescription for Real Healthcare Reform at the Union Square Barnes and Noble on Thursday.
