What better way to celebrate the beginning of fall, than with a festival that is fun for the whole family? Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held annually in Munich, Germany. It is considered the world’s largest fair and on average has over six million people attend each year.  Many wish to be apart of that six million but its location makes that difficult. Luckily cities all over the world have their own Oktoberfest festivals, Campbell being one of them.

This Saturday October 17th from 10am – 6pm and Sunday October 18th from 10am –5pm, downtown Campbell will be hosting it’s own Oktoberfest. In past years this festival has drawn over 40,000 local residents and out of towners.  At this festival you will find over 100 arts and crafts, featuring traditional creations, jewelry, photography, paintings and woodcrafts.  There will be lots of food vendors selling authentic German food like different types of bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut and red cabbage.

But what Oktoberfest is mainly known for is its beer. The world’s first Oktoberfest beer is called Spaten beer. This beer dates back to 1810 and is amber in color and said to have the “taste of Munich.”  This weekend the official Spaten Oktoberfest beer will be available for tasting.

Along with the food, delicious beer, arts and crafts there will also be a variety of musical entertainment.  Best part of it all, is that most of the musicians in the bands that are performing are local residents. At Oktoberfest you will find three stages, the Main stage, which will feature the Alpiners USA. They will be performing traditional German music each day from 12pm to 5pm.

On the East stage you will find a marching band that consist of 40-50 people named California Repercussion.  Classic rock bands Playbacks and Tin Man. Fred McCarty, a variety/ country western artist, Dixieland/Jazz musicians, South Bay Stompers, and this year’s newest band funk/rock band The Garage Band. A list of the entertainment schedule can be found on the Oktoberfest site. The last stage is the community stage where you will find local artists, dancers and high school performers.

Although it sounds like Oktoberfest is an adult event, there are also things for children to enjoy. There will be a designated kid area and a pumpkin patch. This festival genuinely has something that everyone in your family; it is hard to imagine a better way to celebrate Oktoberfest on this side of the Atlantic.  So bring your friends, family and enjoy a weekend with beer, food, arts, crafts, and live music. This weekend, everyone is German.
