If you have children then chances are good you've spent several hours with your knee firmly planted in a carseat, trying to get it securely installed in your car.  You give the seat a triumphant tug to make sure it moves less than the allowed one inch and deem it safe for your child.  Yet the frightening numbers from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration claim that 3 out of 4 children are not restrained properly in vehicles.

The easiest way to make sure your car seat is installed properly is to have a licensed car seat technician examine it.  Many fire stations and police departments offer this service for free.  The technicians will also check for any relevant recalls on your seat.

To find a free car seat check in your area, visit the NHTSA website and use the child safety seat inspection locator
